Risk oversight, regulatory governance and the assurance of models and AI

Five areas, each with what it means for a board and the evidence behind it. Every figure names the organisation where the work was done.

Risk oversight

A risk committee is only as good as the numbers and scenarios put in front of it. She has built stress-testing and capital-reporting cycles from the inside, so she knows where the assumptions sit and which ones a committee should press on.

Scope: Stress testing (EBA, PRA, CCAR) · ICAAP and capital reporting · Market and credit risk · RWA and capital allocation

  • Deutsche BankRisk, finance and treasury analytics feeding EBA stress testing and UK PRA reporting across multiple legal entities.
  • ShellHeaded trading and risk management operations for a $120M APAC commodity trading portfolio, 220+ professionals: market-risk controls, VaR analytics and stress tests.
  • Independent practiceAdvisory work on enterprise capital and risk-weighted-asset allocation, including a Treasury RWA life-cycle assessment for an external consulting client.

Prudential regulation and regulatory governance

Her regulatory depth was earned in delivery rather than advisory, under the US Federal Reserve, the PRA, the EBA, the HKMA and the MAS. For an Indian board facing RBI scrutiny, that is experience of what a supervisor actually tests.

Scope: Basel III and CRR3 · FRTB · EBA and PRA reporting · Dodd-Frank, MiFID II, EMIR, REMIT

  • BarclaysFRTB compliance on an audit-ready framework, and an enterprise-scale, front-to-back legal-entity strategic transformation that removed cross-entity P&L adjustments.
  • Deutsche BankIHC, Basel III and Fed P&L attribution programmes delivered under Federal Reserve scrutiny.
  • Citi, SingaporeCapital-markets projects in private banking linking market and credit risk analytics to MAS and HKMA regulatory reporting.

Model risk

Boards approve models they cannot inspect. She holds the Certificate in Quantitative Finance and has run model calibration and validation to supervisory standard: she can read a validation report and ask what it does not say.

Scope: Model validation and calibration · VaR, SVaR, FRTB · Back-testing · SR 11-7 principles

  • BarclaysLed the FRTB and LIBOR transition for the Macro business, completing model calibrations to audit standard; VaR back-testing improved to 97% with zero exceptions.
  • Deutsche BankEmbedded model-risk governance in the CIB risk and finance analytics feeding regulatory delivery.

Risk data governance

A board that attests to regulatory numbers is relying on data lineage it rarely sees. Her BCBS 239 work is the audit committee's data-integrity mandate, done from the inside.

Scope: BCBS 239 lineage · Data-quality controls · Regulatory reporting · ESG and CSRD data

  • Deutsche BankEstablished lineage and governance protocols across the risk and finance data flows feeding regulatory reporting, closing open audit findings; the pattern was adopted as the enterprise standard.
  • Deutsche BankValidation and data-quality controls aligned to Basel, EBA, PRA and CSRD reporting: 99% data quality, reporting cycle time down 25%.
  • BarclaysThe enterprise risk-data standardisation programme across 30+ SME workstreams, consolidating golden-source risk data into a single reference application.

AI risk assurance

The question now reaching Indian boards is how to adopt AI inside a regulated function without a control gap internal audit would reject. She has answered it once in production.

Scope: AI governance in regulated functions · Controls for AI/ML in production · AI-enabled fraud risk · AI-enabled risk analytics

  • Deutsche BankTook an AI/ML regulatory analytics engine from proof of concept to bank-wide production, building the validation and data-quality controls first: operating effort down 60%, new-process onboarding from five weeks to a single day.
